Lagos Fashion Week Highlights

First of all, shout out to The Alte (and Bella Naija) for giving us front row seats to Lagos Fashion Week!
This time last week, Lagos - the commercial hub of Nigeria was jam-packed with the who's who of the African fashion scene.
With well over 40 brands at this year's Lagos fashion week, we didn't think one post would be fair - so we have two! Our first, (this) highlights the veterans in the Lagos Fashion scene. The latter will focus on the newbies.

So here goes, these are our 'best bits'!

Meena

Uju Offiah, creative director of Meena stays true to the brand's philosophy of Modern Feminity with her S/S20 collection.

Meena

Fun, experimental with a beautifully structured waistline (because not all of us achieved hot girl summer).

You cant be ready for Summer 2020 without at least one piece from this Meena collection.

 Rich Aunty Vibes
Style Temple

OG Okonkwo of Style Temple did not disappoint at this year's Lagos Fashion Week. Her infamous #BestDressedCircle really came to life in SS20 with hues of that Rich Aunty Vibe we love!

Style Temple

If silence is golden, silver must be her louder younger sister!

The best dressed circle came to life.

 Style and storytelling
Maki Oh

What's a Lagos fashion week highlight without Maki Oh?! Designer, Amaka Osakwe always finds new ways  to forge aspects of Lagos life into her collections.

like the chorus to a Michael Jackson song- infectious and memorable.

A* for Androgynous
Orange Culture

The brand continues to push the boundaries of androgynous fashion forward - this time with the help of collaborations from across the continent.

Orange Culture

Free flowing fabrics and colourful palettes were the order of the day.

But the star of this collection were these HATS!

Our wadrobes are definitely ready for this!

The Carousel of Magic
Lisa Folawiyo!

The ultimate baby girl of Lagos, Lisa Folawiyo once again marries prints with loud pops of colour.

Mixed prints and hand stitched magic

We, along with many other people have tried (and failed) to have these concepts replicated. From experience, just don't try it! Save your coins (and the heartache) and buy from the designers themselves! They really know what they're doing - that tailor near your house (especially the one in Colindale) doesn't!
